Zinc sulfide features high refractive index uniformity and excellent image transmission performance from the visible to the infrared band (8000 nm–12000 nm). However, its absorption and scattering increase at longer wavelengths. There are three main types of zinc sulfide commonly used, including multi-faceted zinc sulfide optical glass. It is widely used in the manufacture of optical products such as protective windows and detector windows.
